CDL Study Guide

After filling out all the paperwork to begin getting a CDL in Texas, the first major step is to get your Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP). This permit will allow you to drive under the supervision of a person who holds a commercial driver’s license.

These tests can be a struggle, and we’ve had a lot of students who failed come to us frustrated. That’s why we offer a packet that has the actual questions and answers from these tests on them. If you’re getting ready to take your CDL written exams, contact CDL Truck Services today to get your CDL study guide.

About Our CDL Practice Tests

Each test to get your CLP uses a pool of questions. From that pool, the test will pull a certain number, depending on which test it is. The longest test is the CDL General Knowledge exam, where you’ll answer 50 questions taken from a pool of 250. To pass, you’ll need to get 80% of the questions correct.

The study guides and CDL practice tests we offer at CDL Truck Services have the exact same questions you’ll find on the actual exams. These guides will have all the correct answers to the questions that the tests may have. All you need to do is study hard, and you’ll pass them on the first try.

About The Tests

To get a CLP, you’ll need to pass 4 or 5 exams, depending on which license you’re pursuing. The tests include:

Texas Commercial Vehicle Operation - This test contains 20 questions out of a pool of 80 and covers general knowledge about how to operate a large truck--towing capacities, driving vocabulary, and the like. You must answer 16 of the 20 questions correctly.

CDL General Knowledge Test - The general knowledge exam has 50 questions taken from a pool of 250. To pass the exam, you must get 40 correct. This is the longest test you’ll have to take and it can be difficult if you don’t have the right guide.

CDL Air Brakes Test - The air brakes exam is 25 questions long and taken from a pool of 100 possible questions. You must get 20 correct answers to pass. It covers the maintenance and operation of air brakes

Combination Exam - The combination exam has 20 questions taken from a pool of 100. You must get 16 questions correct to pass. This exam is only necessary if you’re trying to get a Class A CDL in Texas, and it asks questions about topics covered in the previous exams.
