Starting in 2022, anyone seeking to get or upgrade to a Class A or Class B license must take and pass Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) courses prior to getting their CLP.
Additionally, those seeking passenger & school bus endorsements must also complete the relevant coursework.
Texas CDL Truck Services offers online ELDT courses at an affordable rate. Study and test from the comfort of your own home with our convenient student portal. When you’re ready for behind-the-wheel training, we’ll be here.Learn More
For people dreaming about getting their CDL, a trucking school can seem like a great option. However, trucking schools are pretty expensive--often clocking in just around $10 thousand--and take more time than working folks have.
Texas CDL Truck Service offers an affordable, fast alternative to get a Texas CDL. No matter what step of the licensing process you’re on, we have a solution that will help you get through. We offer CDL practice tests for those looking to get their learner’s permit. Our truck rentals come with one-on-one instruction with one of our experienced CDL instructors.
When you’re ready to take the test, you’ll also have a well-maintained, easy-to-drive Class A or Class B truck rental for your exam. We can get you licensed in as little as two weeks. If you’re interested in getting on the road fast, contact us today.
All testing is done in Longview, TX.
After filling out all the paperwork, the first step to getting your CDL is getting your Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP). Depending on the kind of license you’re getting, you’ll need to take 3 or 4 exams to do this. Even more, you’ll need to get at least 80% of the questions on the test correct to pass.
These tests include the Texas Commercial Rules test, General Knowledge Exam, the Combination Exam, the Air brakes test, and any endorsement tests. These exams can be reasonably challenging, and many people who want to get a CDL never pass them.
Fortunately, Texas CDL Truck Services offers CDL practice tests for each of these exams. Our test prep packets include the exact same questions that you’ll find on the exam. All you have to do is study, and you’ll be more than prepared to pass them on the first try.Learn More
After you’ve gotten your CLP, you’ll have to wait two weeks before you can take the final CDL Skills Test to get your license. This is the perfect time to practice your driving and learn more about the final exam. This will prepare you to pass the exam and increase your confidence when driving a commercial vehicle.
With every truck rental, we include targeted, one-on-one instruction from one of our experienced CDL trainers. They’ll work with you on your driving skills, develop what you need to work on to pass the test, and then prepare you for what the test will include. They’ll ensure you have the experience and the confidence to pass the CDL Skills Test the first time you take it.Get my CDL Now
When you take the CDL Skills Test, you’ll need to bring your own vehicle. If you’re getting a Class A license, you’ll need to bring a Class A truck rental to take the exam. Needless to say, being familiar with the truck you take the exam in is incredibly important to ensure you pass the first time you take the exam.
All testing is done in Longview, TX.
When you rent a truck with us, you’ll be using that very same truck you practiced with during the exam. Even better, we’ve hand-picked our trucks. We selected them to ensure they’re easy to drive and have high visibility. They’ll definitely prepare you for success.Learn More
After you’ve filled out all of the initial paperwork to begin getting a CDL, you’ll need to pass 3-4 exams, depending on the license you’re pursuing. These include:
The requirements to get a license depend almost entirely on the type of license you want to get. Each will be a little different. For all of them, you’ll need to get a Commercial Learner’s Permit by passing exams, wait at least 14 days, and then pass the CDL Skills Test.
You may also be required to pass a medical examination. You can find out more information about the medical exam on the Texas DPS website.
Once you’ve completed everything else, you still need to pass the final CDL Skills Test to get your Texas Commercial Driver’s License. You can take this test at any commercial testing site in the state, and you’ll need to have a CDL rental to take it. It has three main parts:
Pre-trip Inspection - The test begins before you even get in the vehicle. The proctor will look at your ability to determine the safety of a vehicle. They’ll also evaluate your ability to initiate the air brakes.
Basic Maneuvers - This part of the exam takes place on a closed course. You’ll be judged on your ability to drive, turn, back up, and park a commercial truck.
Road Test - For the final part of the exam, you’ll go out on the open road. You’ll be evaluated on your ability to drive in normal traffic conditions.
If you’re looking to start a career on the open road, but you aren’t sure you can afford a truck driving school, Texas CDL Truck Service can help. We can help you every step of the way when you’re getting a commercial driver’s license. Whether you need to get a CLP or a commercial truck rental for your final exam, we have a solution for you.
